There is mounting evidence that the government’s policies of fiscal austerity and welfare cuts are leading to a significant increase in the numbers of children and young people being raised in poverty. Equally well established is the close link between poverty, educational under-achievement and higher incidence of mental health difficulties. 

A small number of Educational Psychologists and Trainee EPs have so far been involved in considering our professional response to the current government’s financial and educational policies.
